Building a local newsletter in SF

And why I'm petty for doing it.

I grew a local newsletter to 10,000+ subscribers a few years ago.

Whenever I tweeted about it, people would ask about the validity of using the same tactics for a major city in the US.

I always told them to try it for themselves, but no one did!

So to prove my tactics, I did the exact same thing for San Francisco.

And it worked.

Ethan Brooks (ex The Hustle) interviewed me about the whole thing and created a Launch Playbook for Local Newsletters.

All the best,

Gunnar

PS: I go into details on how I got my first 1,000 subs for free. And I even show the ads I used to generate subscribers for $.50-.60 each. You can literally copy what I did and get your first 10,000 subscribers in 6 months.

PPS: Local newsletters are fun. Start one with the right intentions and it’ll stay fun. IMO a local newsletter is not a great business. But it still has the potential of changing your life. And I think a “boring business” + a local newsletter is super interesting.
